Undelete a file overwritten with mv (Linux)

An interesting investigation on what happens to files when you deleter or mv them. The article basically walks you through how to recover files by replaying a binary file back to the original file. Lesson learned. Backup your computer!

UK Company used XSS vulnerability as company name

Very clever. It appears the UK company register recently started accepting special characters in company names. Well the company in question tested the new naming policy by naming their company a XSS (Cross Site Scripting) attack. So everytime someone would click the link of their company name it would execute a script. Luckily in this case it was non-malicious but goes to show how easy it is to trick people.

Cool new project - opstrace, like Datadog but Open Source

This project popped up across my timeline a few times today so finally dug into it. opstrace is a monitoring suite. A great feature is opstrace makes it easy to deploy in your own cloud account. Also, data never leaves your network and remains private. The team just launched it so check it out.

Microsoft walks back privacy feature "Productivity Score"

This Tweet lask erupted a full on assualt to the O365 team. Basically, O365 makes some dashboards available to see the adoption rate of the various O365 services. However, if you put your critical glasses on it is clear that these features could be used to spy on employee productivity. Microsoft evaluated the feedback and provided an amazing fast turn around for re-working how the tool will work going forward. Instead of providing per employee metrics it will provide only organization metrics going forward. Well done Microsoft!
